Description
Jolaga is a red rice variety, grown widely in Malnad region of Karnataka.People of this region call this variety as Mother of paddy, as it can withstand low rainfall as well as high rainfall conditions. The unique quality of this variety is it can grow in submerged water and still not rot and is resistant to lodging. It can be cultivated in less fertile soil. The paddy is dull black in colour and the grains are red in colour. Uses: Good for daily consumption and an accompaniment to dhal, sambar, rasam and curd, can also be used to prepare pongal, fluffy dosas and also rice flour for cooking soft rotis.
