This tea has two parts – the base, which is green tea, Gan Lu, from Mengding Shan in Sichuan, has the character needed to stand the test of time. The leaves are hand-picked in early spring and then pan roasted, finished and stored till summer. Summer is the season for jasmine. Flowers are selected based on whether they have the character and intensity and can live up to the expectations of scenting, all this without losing their sweet and smooth character. The scenting process happens in small batches. Tea leaves are baked and dried at an initial low temperature and then they receive a layer of fresh jasmine flowers. The dry tea leaves absorb the residual moisture and aromatic oils from the flowers. After that, the flowers are fanned off the next morning, and the tea is re-baked to go through the process of scenting again. The end result is tea that is intense, aromatic, and intoxicating.
